Opening a business that is a little different from the norm can be a challenge for new entrepreneurs, but Ted Sellers and Scott Crippen seem to be handling it well. Sellers and Crippen openedWhatcom Winemakers about six months ago and have been steadily growing a customer base. The business at 130 E. Champion St. is a place where customers can come in, taste some wine and create their own blends and labels. Customers can make a batch of 30 bottles to either give away as gifts or stock their own cellars. "For most people, it's a chance to do something with a group of friends that's beyond the regular activities, like going out to the movies or to dinner," Sellers said. "It is very informal, and we try not to be too stuffy, especially when it comes to wine-tasting.
